Learning Digital Photography – Portrait Tips
Photography has become so much fun these days with digital cameras. And probably the funnest, yet the hardest subject to photograph are people. But the secrets to great portrait photography are not too illusive or hard to learn. The first thing I learned that helped me was that the people I was photographing were even more intimidated than I was. And I learned that what I first needed to focus on was how to make them feel less intimidated and more comfortable. Learning helpful poses are nothing if your subjects are scared and stiff.
I also strongly believe the first step to photographing a person, is to really pay attention to that person. Listen to them, find out who they are. Who they really are. Once you connect with them, it will be easier to figure out how to pose them and how to photograph them in a way that both of you will be proud of the portrait.
Photography can be such a technical medium, but portrait photography is really more about people connection and honesty. A successful portrait should reveal something about the person. And it should be done in a creative and complimentary way.
