Child Figure Photography
Child figure photography is usually on mothers really loves thing to do. If they have their own cameras, it’s easy to take some pictures of their own children as they grow.

How to Photograph Children – Choose Your Location
Recently my husband and I spent the better part of a week with one of our older children, and our grandson wanted to come with us and be with his uncle. We were planning on doing some sightseeing around Detroit, so I knew there would be a great opportunity to photograph our grandson.
One of the places we went to visit was The Henry Ford Museum billed as America’s Greatest History Attraction. Filled with cars, trains and airplanes it is a great place for boys of all ages.
I knew we were going there, so planning ahead I chose clothes for our grandson which complimented what we were going to see. Striped O’Skosh B’Gosh shorts and a bright shirt were just the right combination to cars, planes and trains.
Top attraction for our grandson was a 600 ton Allegheny 2-6-6-6 Steam Locomotive, one of the largest steam locomotives ever built! Children could get into the cab of the engine, blast the whistle and imagine themselves stoking the coal box and pulling a long train filled with goods for the heartland of America.
After finally coaxing him out of the cab of the steam engine he climbed on each of the railroad cars behind the coal tender, hanging off and begging for me to take his picture! There was no lack of opportunity to take great photos of this child.
Sure enough he was fascinated by these machines, and wanted his picture taken as he imagined himself roaring down the train tracks to some unknown destination, blowing the whistle and stoking the fires. I took a picture of him standing under a suspended shiny DC-3 airplane looking up and imaging navigating around the world.
Shot from behind, with no one else around, just an 8 year old boy looking skyward at that aircraft created some incredible feeling, a sense of wonder and an interesting photograph. Looking at it afterward my husband (a pilot) said he could identify with that image, and that it brought back memories of his youth.
Mission accomplished!
So as you plan your activities take some time to think about what you are going to do, where you are going, and figure out how you can use that opportunity to take some great photographs of your children. Once you do you will quickly realize that there are countless opportunities to take photographs of your children which will bring pleasure to family and friends for generations to come.
